Koli Maati-Life with Nets

This is an editorial design project that explores the lives, culture, and traditions of the Kolis, the Aboriginal dwellers and original fishing community of Mumbai. The book is created for readers who are unaware of their history, as their existence is often overlooked in today's modern city. It brings together their stories, daily life, myths, and festivals through research, photographs, and illustrations. To make the experience more authentic, I have extracted and included a few stanzas from original Koli folk songs written in Marathi, along with their English translations so that a wider audience can understand and connect with their meaning. Through this book, I hope to create awareness and appreciation for an important part of Mumbai's cultural heritage.
